Sludge Survey

Understanding Sludge

A certain amount of sludge is generated on every ship from purifiers, tank drains, leaky glands etc. This amounts to 1.0% to 1.5% of the daily bunker consumption. A few years back, shipping companies paid a fee to sludge disposing facilities to dispose of the sludge. However, in some ports, unscrupulous traders could use the sludge to extract fuel and market it for profit. They are ready to pay the ship staff for ‘ Good Quality Sludge ‘ as an incentive to pump good fuel along with sludge

Service We Provide

We understand sludge. We know how much sludge should be produced for every tonne of oil used onboard and can provide an estimate of how much sludge should remain onboard. We check the logbooks, sludge tanks and ensure the quantity onboard matches with what should be!

Why do you need this?

Disposal of sludge is a hassle in some ports while it can be financially beneficial in others. The impact on the environment is the same everywhere. We all need to contribute to saving our environment and efficient sludge management through sludge surveys is a part of it.

This also helps you to ensure you are compliant with the relevant regulations of Marpol.
