Understanding Remaining on board (ROB) Survey
Ship Staff usually keep some quantity of bunker fuel in excess of what is declared in the logbook. They do this as a safety margin to cover up for any accidents, machinery malfunction, spillages, measurement error etc. If unchecked, such practice can lead ship staff to keep a large quantity of unaccounted bunker which could be sold to the supplier/barge for monetary gains. Such an unaccounted bunker is not captured in the company asset too. This can lead to a huge loss if not controlled.
